Myanmar is one of the most biologically diverse countries in the world, with a large number of forest resources and many rare animals and plants. At the same time, the environment in Myanmar has also been seriously threatened by climate change and human exploitation. In 2016, GEI joined 4 local NGOs in Myanmar to promote the agreement protection mechanism and carry out community demonstration projects.

GEI also provided training for the Burma NGOs to enhance their project management and project implementation capabilities. We hope that the agreement will protect this new mechanism and be a catalyst for the ecological protection of Burma.

Needs:
Strengthen local Burmese NGOs’ current project capacity for conservation and development.

Approach:
Lead local NGOs in experiential-learning sessions. After completing the training we provide long-term support as well as product guidance for the NGOs.

Build up the capacity of local Myanmar NGOs to conduct conservation work and implement sustainable community development techniques.

Launched protection agreement projects in 16 communities in 4 provinces in Mynamar.

Established 4,295 acres of CCCA protection sites benefitting 15,783 people.

28 regional forestry officials in 14 provinces promoted the agreement protection mechanism.
