A key for energy efficiency is incorporating renewable energy sources into a market mechanism that ensures its longevity and sustainability.
GEI works with partners to develop these mechanisms so to best suit business opportunities throughout China. Thus far our work has taken two main steps, first, establishing an Energy Service Company (ESCo) that combines financing, technology and international carbon trading and second, scaling up market models of energy efficiency.
Needs:
Improved methods for integrating energy efficient technology into city policy and building plans.
Approach:
Work with partners to devise market mechanisms to promote energy efficiency and to conduct market analysis of energy consumption.
To promote policies that support energy efficient technology and utilization of low-carbon energy sources.
Developed an innovative model for commercializing energy efficiency and emission reduction projects, with the Energy Service Company (ESCo) as the main operating body.
Took advantage of the current stage in the development of the Carbon Emission Reductions (CER) market to incorporate the Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) into the model in order to maximize benefits to investors (and purchasers of CERs).
